It was one of the happiest moments for Sumi Khora aged about 7 years studies in class 3 in Nuaguda under Sambai Gram Panchayate when she got books on her mother tongue i.e. in PARAJA developed by Adivasi Ekta Sasaktikaran Samanwaya. These books were quite helpful to herself and her friends in continuing of their studies. Sumi was experiencing very difficult in understanding in transaction of the local teacher who taught in Odia language which was alien to her & couldn’t understand at the same time. This was not the case of Sumi rather the stories other 25 co-students who has been studying with her.

Sumi Shared difficulties with her parents that, it was quite challenging for her to understand the language which is not in their language. Taking this into view, Sumi’s parents as well as other villagers approached to the school for addressing of this issue. But, they disappointed when no concrete efforts were taken in this direction by the school authority. When it came to our notice, with the support of local youth Pandu Khora belonged to this area, we were tried to address the issues by sparing some times in school with the students. But, this was not served the purposes fully! To get a more viable soultuion to this, with the support from Pandu and other local people, we had developed and published Paraja Language book “MA KUBI KATA”. In this book, things have been mentioned in local tribal dialect i.e. Paraja which is quite famililar to them to understand. Now, this book is included in school curriculum for study in Sambai. Like Sumi and other children of the areas feel very happy that they have the book which is quite helpful in their studies. Other children of the nearby areas have been demanding the books for their reference. Time has come for the policy makers to look into this matter with seriously!
